Unmissable tip if you are planning a visit to Paris: go to the Officine Universelle Buly, in Saint Germain. If you love beauty and history, it’s paradise!

Founded in 1803, the apothecary Buly became famous due to the cosmetics created by Jean-Vincent Bully – such a notable person, he was even the inspiration for one of Honoré de Balzac’s characters. The formulas were super innovative at the time, some people say that his “Vinaigre de Bully” was the first face toner in history.

Buly was brought back to life last year by the couple Ramdane Touhami and Victoire de Taillac, also responsible for reviving another historical French brand, Cire Trudon, very well known by those who love scented candles.

The first Buly store (and so far the only one, although there are expansion plans on the horizon) is located in Saint German, Rue Bonaparte, and it is beautiful – a really must see. Besides the amazing space, it is worth visiting to get to know the products, that practically follow the same recipes from Mr. Bully’s time, just with a few updates in their formulas, and with a super special packaging (I bought the Pommade Virginale to try).
